Sound Image Localization

Automatic sound image localization can be implemented by applying locating technology and sound effect technology systematically. The resolution of locating can be improved by using auxiliary sensors such as acceleration sensors and geomagnetic sensors. For wireless communication to combine various components including the base system, mobile terminals, and beacons, ZigBee is the right choice.

The sound image can be localized by varying the amplitude and delay of the input sound. This is implemented on FPGA to support multiple channels and guarantee real-time operation. FPGA is very flexible in designing its logic and is useful to support various additional features. As a sound effect device, this solution provides basic functions like gain and level control, peak detection, and mixing.

User interface is also very important to make sound operators use these features easily. The basic functions may be the main interest of the operators and the way of operation should be maintained in the way familiar to them. At the same time, the newly introduced functions should be accessible through intuitive user interface. We are trying to integrate the traditional functions and innovative IT technology in harmony. Fader implementation on touch-screen equipped LCD display and remote controls using small handheld terminals are the examples.
